Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Paige & Brett

All photos by Chelsea Renay Photography

Paige and Brett’s Greensboro wedding day was filled with moments of pure magic at Rev Mill Events. The Courtyard was the perfect ceremony choice with summer in full bloom, feeling like it was straight out of a fairy tale. The guests created an atmosphere of sheer excitement as the couple exchanged their heartfelt vows. There was an undeniable love in the air!

From the moment their wedding day began, the bride and groom were surrounded by friends and family who were elated to be part of this beautiful day. You could truly feel the excitement and expectations for the festivities ahead. Paige and her bridesmaids took full advantage of The Suite as they got ready together, sharing laughter, tears and heartfelt moments.

CEREMONY

“Looking out the window at the "first look" with Paige & Brett and then the 2nd "first look" that Paige had with her dad (Ed) and brother (Eddie). It was precious and I'm so very glad that Paige wanted to add Eddie in the mix. After the "first looks", Paige and Brett both seemed so happy and calm.........there was just a feeling that all was well with the world. From the words of the FOB, Paige was so calm it helped me to be calm.” - Mother of the Bride

Have we mentioned how much we love first looks? We absolutely loved that Paige and Brett incorporated this tradition into their wedding day. Those quiet moments during a first look are so sweet before meeting again at the altar. It can help calm nerves and you may choose to exchange vows intimately before the ceremony as a special memory between just the two of you.

As the Groom and groomsmen took their place in The Courtyard, the Bride and her bridesmaids began their walk down the courtyard stone walkway. The sun sparkled upon the newlyweds as they said “I do”.

COCKTAIL HOUR

As guests flowed from The Courtyard into The Colonnade, they were greeted with a delightful cocktail hour in our lower level. As guests mixed and mingled, they enjoyed delicious appetizers including Mushroom Caps, Beef Bruschetta and Southwestern Potato Skins and sipped on the signature drink, a Moscow Mule. The air was filled with the gentle hum of laughter and clinking of glasses as guests savored every moment.

“Paige let me know what she did not want in a wedding venue (barns, ugly ballroom carpet, country club types....) and then gave me several places to preview before she and Brett could get to Greensboro. She also liked the "Industrial look". I set up the meeting with Ben and then brought 2 very dear friends to the meeting. It was the very 1st venue we visited and all 3 of us immediately knew that it was Paige!- Mother of the Bride

The Reception

The Colonnade came to life as guests ascended into the upper venue space that was perfectly prepared with elegant table designs for the reception. As the evening progressed from toasts to dinner, guests enjoyed heart warming speeches and toasts on love before enjoying a delicious meal prepared by our in house catering including Beef Tenderloin Medallions, Blackened Tilapia Filets, Wild Mushroom Risotto and Roasted Veggies.

Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Kathryn & Clint

All photos by Thin Spaces Productions

Kathryn & Clint’s wedding day at Revolution Mill Events was the perfect day for friends and family to share and celebrate the beginning of their next chapter in their love story. Incorporating a cohesive design with little hints of their personalities sprinkled throughout, they created the perfect June wedding day in Greensboro, North Carolina

“Our wedding day was beautiful! It was a perfect, sunny day filled with family, friends, and laughter. We had so much fun getting to spend time with all of our favorite people in one place. From getting ready together in the morning, to dancing the night away, it was so heartwarming to see everyone from both sides of the family come together. The venue was stunning and all of the vendors were spot on. We couldn't have asked for a better day!” - BRIDE

The thoughtfulness behind every aspect of their wedding shone through from the touches of the textures to the loving acknowledgments to family traditions placed throughout the day. The design elements were light, welcoming and allowed guests to experience more of the couple's personalities and story throughout the day.

“The most unique part of our wedding was our cookie table filled with homemade treats! My family is originally from Pennsylvania and it is a tradition to have a cookie table at weddings for guests to bring homemade cookies to contribute. It is so popular that there are actually Italian Wedding Cookies specifically for this occasion! My mom, grandmothers, and aunts all contributed to the wedding cookie table. We had table top labels that showed a picture of me and the family member that made the cookies on display for our guests as they grazed. We had doggy bags for people to take some cookies with them as their wedding favor and needless to say, it was a huge hit!” - BRIDE

The Jordan’s took DIY by storm when planning their wedding day. Kathryn fell in love with the floral design of her wedding dress and decided to incorporate it into other aspects of their wedding design. Their custom signage, invitations and stationery was all cohesively planned and designed with the dress in mind!

“The biggest piece of advice we would give couples planning their wedding is: don't be afraid to stray from tradition or what's trending to make the day your own. This day is to celebrate YOU, so do what you feel is right. We are so happy that we put our own personal spin on things from the timeline, to layouts, and key parts of the day that we wanted to make sure happened.” - BRIDE

The Ceremony

The Courtyard was prepped perfectly for the event down to every last special detail. On this beautiful June day, the North Carolina sun lit the courtyard and created the ideal conditions for their outdoor ceremony. Their floral arrangements were unique and gorgeously placed for framing the couple as they said their “I do’s”. As everyone entered the space, guests' excitement filled the air with expectation of the event to come. Their color palette was absolutely stunning against The Courtyard’s greenery and historic brick background.

“It was very important to us to have some outdoor space because we were having a spring wedding and wanted our guests to be able to enjoy the weather. Once we toured the venue, we fell in love. We loved that the event space was completely private, something other venues we toured were lacking, and that there were so many options. We had multiple options for how to use the indoor and outdoor spaces which is something we were really looking for because we wanted to make the wedding personal. There were even multiple options for the rehearsal dinner spaces! We were able to confidently make decisions based on what we felt was best because we were able to weigh our options on how to best use the space.” - BRIDE

The Reception

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails and appetizers in The Courtyard, the couples favorite space at Rev Mill Events, before moving into The Colonnade for the Reception. The decor choices were beautifully intertwined with the colors and theme of the wedding design. The floral arrangements continued to catch your eye as they were elegantly placed on each table. The Reception was full of love, celebration, and admiration from family and friends gathered to celebrate the newlyweds!

She and her team also worked seamlessly with the other vendors even though she had never worked with them before. We can not rave about Thin Spaces enough!”

Coordinator/Planner: A Touch Of Southern Events - “A Touch of Southern wedding planners were amazing! Shout out to Brittni! She and her team were really able to bring our vision to life without causing us any stress. They were able to calmly guide the events of the day and make sure we were taken care of. If anything went wrong, we were not aware of it, which is exactly what you want on your wedding day!”

Florals: Something Borrowed Blooms - “provided the stunning wedding florals! This company allows you to rent silk florals for weddings (and other events) and I was so pleasantly surprised by the quality of their flowers. As a type A bride, I didn't like the unknown of what my flowers would look like the day of, so I opted for a more predictable, affordable, and sustainable option. These silk flowers were gorgeous, photographed beautifully and gave the exact look I was going for. Something Borrowed Blooms thought of everything so that you don't have to and their customer service is amazing!”

Videographer: Honeydew Films - “captured stunning video footage for us! We were able to get a highlight film, plus edited clips of special moments throughout the day such as the first dances, speeches, and the full ceremony. It was so important for us to have the full video of the ceremony from start to finish, and their product was beautiful! The team was nice to work with and they got along great with the other vendors!”

Hair & Makeup: I Do Style - “provided hair and makeup services for all of the women in the bridal party plus moms and grandmas! The team was so flexible and fun to work with the morning of the wedding. They really listened to each person's vision for their wedding look and executed flawlessly!”

DJ: 336 DJ’s - “provided the entertainment all day and did a fantastic job! They were very thorough in making sure we had exactly what we wanted in our wedding playlist. We were able to create it or give them creative freedom which we loved. They did an amazing job with the sound systems and setting the tone for the wedding throughout the day!”

About Rev Mill Events:

“Working with Revolution Mill Events was so stress-free and fun! They really help you make the most of this once in a lifetime experience by having events leading up to the wedding day. We always looked forward to going to their events so we could take time envisioning our wedding day in the space and trying all of the amazing food. It was also a chance to ask questions or meet different vendors, which we appreciated. The team was so nice and we loved working with them! Aimee and Ben were so great to work with because they had the answer to any question we could think of! They are so knowledgeable, helpful, and personable and it was a joy working with them. “ - BRIDE

Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Alexis + Ben

Alexis and Ben were married on a gorgeous May afternoon at The Colonnade at Revolution Mill in Greensboro. Photographer, Amanda Sutton, did a phenomenal job showcasing our venue and of course, the love between Alexis and Ben… and Bailey (their dog!!).

The Proposal

“While I was home to go to a concert with my Mom, Ben secretly purchased a boat and made the trip home to surprise me with it. He made the excuse that he needed me to go to his parents’ house to grab something for him before I headed back to Beaufort. Before I knew it, both our families were gathered around a boat outside of his parents’ home. While we stood in front of the boat to take a picture, he proposed which turned out to be an even bigger surprise than the boat!”

The Venue

Like many of our Rev Mill couples, Alexis and Ben first noticed The Colonnade’s unique combination of historic and modern qualities.

Greensboro Venue_1649.jpg

WHAT DREW YOU TO THE COLONNADE?

“We were initially drawn to The Colonnade because of its historic and industrial charm. It encompassed every visual element that we were looking for. What made us decide to book our wedding there was a combination of the inclusive packages they offer and the people we would be working with. They made everything so easy and simple and that's very hard to find when planning a wedding.”

Greensboro Venue_1678.jpg
Greensboro Venue_1656.jpg
Greensboro Venue_1679.jpg

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE ARCHITECTURAL FEATURE OF THE COLONNADE?

“It's impossible to pick just one thing. I think what makes it special is the combination of all the features. The exposed brick, large windows, wooden beams, shiplap and iron railing are all puzzle pieces that together create a beautiful space for any kind of event.”

Pre-Wedding Prep + Planning

Alexis and Ben did an amazing job “DIY’ing” many of their decorations including their signs, table numbers, guest book, doughnut boards, bridal party gifts and even their arbor.

“I've always loved crafts and projects so I saw this as an opportunity to create pieces that would add a personal touch. Everything turned out so amazing and complimented the venue beautifully. We're especially glad that the arbor turned out so well that it got to stay at Revolution Mill to become a piece used by future couples for their ceremonies. … While it's all hard work, it was so rewarding to hear how much our guests admired our handmade pieces.”

The girls spent the morning of the big day being pampered in our spacious Suite. Meanwhile the boys enjoyed getting ready in The Lounge while relaxing with drinks.

WHAT WAS THE MOST UNIQUE ELEMENT OF YOUR WEDDING DAY?

“When planning our wedding, it was very important to us that our day felt unique and personal to us. We achieved that through our ceremony music, DIY decor, and our cups and koozies. For our ceremony, we wanted to avoid the overplayed music you hear at almost every wedding. We chose to play songs by Tyler Childers, Billie Eilish and Bon Iver to add a soft and romantic feel. Our cups and koozies were unique in the sense that we incorporated our sweet pup Bailey's face over the phrase, "I do, too!" on one side. Any one who know us knows that our dog is a big part of our lives and we love that we were able to include him in our special day.”

Greensboro Venue_1686.jpg

The Ceremony

The couple chose to have an indoor ceremony since Spring weather can be a little up in the air. The Edison lights, gold chairs, soft pinks and creams, plus the wine colored bridesmaid’s dresses and the DIY Wedding Arbor came together perfectly to create the romantic, yet industrial and boho atmosphere that Alexis and Ben were aiming for.

Greensboro Venue_1670.jpg

The Reception

The reception, like the rest of their day, was customized to showcase Alexis and Ben’s personalities… complete with doughnut boards, Edison lights, a mix of round and rectangle tables, a photo booth, lots of dancing fun and a full open bar. The place settings were beautifully highlighted by burgundy napkins along with more DIY touches.

The couple created coordinating menu cards which featured the dinner buffet menu of:

  • Tossed Garden Salad

  • Herb Crusted Chicken

  • Pork Loin in Smoked Bacon and Stone Fruit Sauce

  • Signature Smashed Potatoes

  • Oven-Roasted Vegetables

Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Ashton + Dyllan

Ashton and Dyllan celebrated their wedding on a gorgeous October day surrounded by their closest family and friends. After months of planning and making changes due to COVID, their wedding day came together perfectly! Despite the curveballs COVID tried to throw at them, Ashton and Dyllan rolled with the punches and never lost sight of what matters most…saying “I Do!”

The Venue + Décor

What drew you to The Colonnade?

Multiple things drew us to The Colonnade. I loved the fact that we could be inside & outside. We loved the industrial feel of the venue & we also loved that catering was included. That took a huge LOAD off our backs when it came to planning what people would eat & drink.
- Ashton, Bride

It was a beautiful fall day for a courtyard ceremony and the intimate dinner reception that followed. The couple incorporated fall colors into their décor. Ashton created all of the table signs and welcome sign out of acrylic plexiglass and paint which helped to pull the classic wedding style together. Their guests loved the custom crossword puzzles provided for entertainment at their tables. One of the most memorable moments for the couple occured when Dyllan’s father played a video of well-wishes from family that lived out of the country since they were unable to travel.

Jaime [Venue & Catering Manager] was my favorite thing about working with Revolution Mill Events. I can't imagine managing multiple crazy couple's weddings every month, let alone during a pandemic. She kept me sane, she answered all my questions, and she really helped make sure we had a wonderful wedding.

Flora Weddings & Events - Our flowers were so special and lovely. The colors were more beautiful than I could have dreamed of.

Triad DJ - PJ and Alan were amazing at reading the room & did a fantastic job during the ceremony as well. Everything went down flawlessly even my little surprise song I sang at the reception.

Maxie B's Cake & Nothing Bundt Cakes - I mean delicious.

Kayli Lafon Photography - OVER THE MOON about how beautiful the photos turned out. From the start, I knew that getting a great photographer was super important to me. Kayli is wonderful! Made us feel super comfortable and really captured how much we love each other.

Up Do's Hair & Makeup - Felt like a beauty queen. 100% recommend getting your hair and makeup done even if you feel confident in your own hair and makeup skills. It was sooo relaxing not having to worry about doing my eye shadow & liner absolutely perfect.

Revolution Mill Greensboro Reception: Rachel and Kegan

Rachel and Kegan were married on July 20, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, NC. Their celebration continued with a reception in The Colonnade at Revolution Mill. The couple has been together since middle school (keep an eye out for the photos below of some adorable scrapbook style gifts Rachel has made and gifted Kegan over the years) and are truly an amazing, easy going couple! We’re so thankful they chose our venue to celebrate their love with family and friends.

The Venue

Rachel and Kegan chose a cocktail style reception because their main goal was for their guests to mingle and have lots of fun. They hired an amazing band and handed out festive light up accessories for the dance floor which added to the party vibe. We provided interactive food stations, multiple bars and a late night snack so food and drinks flowed throughout the night.

What drew the couple to the Colonnade?

“The location is wonderful. We just loved the feel of the space with the exposed brick and wood beams. It was also so convenient to have another bar around the corner that us and our guests walked to after the reception was over!”
- Rachel and Kegan, Bride and Groom

The Vendors

“We are both from Greensboro and wanted to have our reception at a place that felt new to us instead of a place where we grew up going to events. Revolution Mill absolutely blew us away. Jaime was so calm throughout the planning process and answered all of our questions and concerns quickly and with ease. The night flowed so well, and she, along with my incredible wedding coordinator Mimi McGinn, made sure everything was thought of.

My husband and I got to eat quietly by ourselves before ever coming out for our first dance. We got to try all of the wonderful food that was being served and then got to mingle with our guests immediately upon the start of the event. This was a bigger gift than I imagined, as I am not sure we would have found the time to eat otherwise. Revolution Mill also kindly packaged up all of the leftover food and sent it back with us which was a wonderful late night treat for our friends.

Our band, Right to Party, was also INCREDIBLE. They played for over 2 and a half hours straight which kept the party going until the very end. They also learned how to play our first dance song which we really appreciated!” - Rachel, Bride

Photographer: Lanterns and Feathers Photography
Reception Music: Right to Party
Desserts: Duck Donuts

Lighting: In-House/Revolution Mill
Catering: In-House/Peppermoon Catering
Transportation: Triad Trolley

“The level of service was absolutely wonderful. There were multiple bartenders at each bar and no one had to stand around in line to get a drink or to get food. I also never had to think twice about when things would come out, and the timing was always perfect.” - Rachel, Bride

Rachel and Kegan took advantage of two of our campus neighbors and went for drinks afterwards at The Bearded Goat. For our couples who choose to utilize everything our campus has to offer, there are quite a few options to take advantage of, such as having your Rehearsal Dinner at a nearby restaurant such as Kau.

“It was truly the most perfect day. I was not stressed about a single thing, and it was more fun than I could have imagined. Having all your favorite people in one place to celebrate is the most humbling experience and we could not be more grateful. The reception was incredible, from the flow of food, to the service, to the band set up, it all went off without a hitch. We walked away from the weekend saying confidently, we wouldn't have changed a thing.” - Rachel and Kegan, Bride and Groom

We are honored to be a part of Rachel and Kegan’s love story! It was amazing to see their vision turn into reality with the fun filled reception they planned for their friends and family. Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Alexandra and Jordan

After knowing each other since 5th grade, Alexandra and Jordan were married on a beautiful sunny afternoon on May 18, 2019 in the courtyard at The Colonnade. Because of her past experience working in the event industry, Alex had a clear vision of what was most important for their day.

Things kicked off on Friday with their ceremony rehearsal followed by a rehearsal dinner at Kau (right on the Revolution Mill campus!). Saturday was filled with getting ready, saying “I do” and dancing the night away! We loved getting to know this couple and partnering with them to create many special memories.

Greensboro Wedding Venue, Revolution Mill, Triad Wedding_1144.jpg

“If I could give this venue more than 5 stars I would!! This met and exceeded every single expectation I ever had. There is not a single bad thing I would say. Beautiful, elegant, romantic, and fun. There is something for every bride and every groom. The fact that it has a beautiful outdoor space just as nice as the inside is a true PLUS. Truly the best decision I made! The staff at The Colonnade at Revolution Mill was extremely attentive, loving, and caring. I will be recommending this venue to anyone and everyone.”

- Alex, Bride

The Venue & Décor

When asked what initially drew the couple to The Colonnade, Alex mentioned the fact that we have both indoor and outdoor spaces… and also that the venue practically “decorated itself.”

The couple chose an outdoor ceremony in the courtyard. The decor consisted of dusty rose, lots of greenery and gold accents. Why did Alex and Jordan choose these colors? … they matched the Bridesmaids dresses! While Alex and Jordan were having photos done after the ceremony, the guests made use of our outdoor space during cocktail hour. They were kept entertained with an outdoor bar, passed hors d’oeuvres and patio games.

Greensboro Wedding Venue, Revolution Mill, Triad Wedding_1156.jpg

The Suite

While the guy got ready in The Lounge, Alex chose to take advantage of our newly finished Suite for her finishing touches. We are so happy that we can provide this convenient space on site for getting ready and photos, rather than having to travel over in your dress. Better yet, use of this space is included in your venue rental fee!

Food & Drinks

The couple wanted to wow their 165 guests with seasonal and delicious food and drink! They opted for passed hors d’oeuvres of:

  • Cheddar Biscuits with Ham, Granny Smith Apples and Honey Mustard

  • Bacon-wrapped Sweet Potatoes

  • Caprese Skewers

The dinner buffet included:

  • Spinach Salad with Strawberries, Mandarin Oranges, Goat Cheese, Almonds, and Blood Orange Vinaigrette

  • Bourbon and Pecan Coated Chicken Breast (the couple’s favorite!!)

  • Grilled Flank Steak with Pommery Mustard Sauce

  • Grilled Vegetables

  • Carolina Wild Rice

Everyone enjoyed a decadent dessert table filled with cake and goodies after dinner.

Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Hillary and Adam

We loved being a part of Hillary and Adam’s fall wedding weekend! They kicked it off with a rehearsal dinner in Color Works Meeting Space. Then they shared their unique ceremony and reception with us at The Colonnade on November 10, 2018.

The Backstory

“We met on tinder (LOL) and after texting for about a week, we went on our first date. The rest is history! … We both swiped right, so I’d say it was literally love at first sight ;)” - Hillary, Bride

The Proposal

“We were in Iceland and he proposed on my birthday! He carried the ring around in his pocket all day waiting for the ideal moment. He thought it was the perfect time when we went to see the Northern Lights and just when he wanted to ask, a tour bus full of very excited (ahem, loud) people showed up and, knowing that I wouldn’t want an audience, he waited until we got back to the hotel room. It ended up being super private and special!” - Hillary, Bride

The Venue & Catering

The couple loved the character of Revolution Mill including the exposed brick, tall windows and high ceilings; but what truly drew them in was the custom wrought iron railings.

Hillary and Adam said their vows, surrounded by family and friends in the lower level with our amazing brick and arched window backdrop. While they took some fun pictures around Revolution Mill (check out Hillary’s lush fur stole and rad leather jacket!), guests enjoyed cocktail hour with an open bar along with passed mini sundried tomato biscuits with homemade pimento cheese; bruschetta; and barbecued shrimp on polenta cakes. A dinner buffet followed with tossed salad; Parmesan cream chicken; pepper pork loin with stone fruit and bacon glaze; smashed potatoes; green beans and a special entree for several vegan guests.

The Planning Process and Vendors

The couple chose a moody, romantic theme for their wedding and the burgundy, dark greens and blush pink colors paired perfectly to help set the mood of the day. The furniture rented from Eventful NC helped to add the perfect element of vintage charm for family seating during the indoor ceremony. Then it was re positioned to create a fun photo op and lounge area for guests during the reception!

Samantha Floyd Photography did such an amazing job capturing our day/personalities. Megan Perry with The Hair Refinery did my hair and makeup exactly the way I wanted. B*Dazzled Productions was so fantastic as DJ - it was the best party ever!

The communication with Revolution Mill Events was wonderful. I never felt out of the loop or like Jaime didn't have a full grasp of what I was looking for. This gave me great peace of mind.”

Revolution Mill Events: Claire and Azer

Married 9-22-2018

“Our wedding day was full of so much joy! We wanted something simple but elegant and we truly feel like the day could not have gone better! We had a traditional Catholic mass at St Pius X Church in Greensboro, NC. It was extra special for us to get married here, as it is Claire's home church where she has received all her sacraments. The ceremony was beautiful and the music and readings were all hand picked by us! Our reception at Revolution Mill was an absolute blast and we could not have picked a better venue! We ended the night dancing with our closest family and friends.”

 - Claire & Azer, Bride & Groom

The backstory

“We met at the gym.  We both moved to Atlanta for work and routinely went to the gym around the same time each day (after work) and struck up a conversation and became friends. We started talking to each other each time we saw one another there and Azer finally asked me out on a date!”

The couple dated for a bit, and in 2017 Azer popped the question! When Claire’s annual family beach trip was cancelled for the first time ever, Azer planned a weekend getaway to Florida for the couple. Claire loves the beach, and when the couple was having cocktails on the balcony before dinner, Azer proposed. Claire says it was the perfect, intimate proposal.

The planning process

Claire’s advice to new brides? “Delegate and take it a little at a time. Planning can be very overwhelming, but if you have reliable vendors and help from family/friends-it will go smoothly!”

Décor

Claire and Azer didn’t have a particular theme, but the color scheme of navy and blush was consistent throughout their venue décor.

Navy is one of Azer's favorite colors and blush is one of Claire's favorite colors – and they ended up making the perfect color combination for an early fall wedding.

One of the most unique elements of the couple’s décor was a special tribute table that featured photos of Claire’s mother and grandmothers on a table alongside a portrait of Claire.

Food and drink

The couple opted for a cocktail hour with passed appetizers that included caprese skewers, prosciutto wrapped asparagus, and spaghetti meatball skewers. The couple said the spaghetti and meatball appetizer was their favorite thing of the night!

Guests started off their meal with a baby spinach salad with strawberries, mandarin oranges, goat cheese, and almonds in a blood orange vinaigrette. A dinner buffet gave guests the option of bourbon and pecan coated chicken or marinated grilled flank steak along with a variety of accompaniments. Everyone enjoyed wedding and groom’s cake to finish their meal!

Venue

“Jaime and her staff were absolutely amazing! She was so organized and scheduled meetings with us leading up to the wedding to review the timeline. We felt so comfortable with her and her team and were confident that everything would go smoothly-and it definitely did!”

-       Claire, Bride

Claire said that after attending The Colonnade’s open house, they fell in love with the space. It fit their style perfectly and the large windows took their breath away. They loved the idea of letting in so much natural light, and knew the space would make a gorgeous backdrop for photos.

Revolution Mill Events: Allyssa and Dustin

While Florence prevented a handful of out of town family members from making it, Allyssa and Dustin still ended up having a fantastic day – Hurricane Florence and all. The couple even collected rain from their wedding day. They made the best of it, because they knew nothing was going to stop them from saying “I do.”

The proposal

The couple got engaged on August 2, 2017. After a long day at work, they went to dinner at Village Tavern.

“He seemed distracted with his phone while at dinner but I didn’t think anything of it. We stopped by Sheetz after dinner for him to pick up some beer... When we got home there was a dog crate in the living room and my dog was sniffing the crate. As soon as I realized there was a puppy in the crate, I lost it. I have a passion for dogs so I was beside myself. I dropped to my knees in tears and hugged our newest addition. When I finally turned around to look at Dustin he was holding a little box. He then got down on his knee and asked to marry me. To this day he still thinks I haven’t fully answered his proposal question because I was too excited about getting a puppy. He put the ring on my finger and the first thing I thought is we have to go show my parents. Dustin opened the front door and my family and our closest friends came running in with champagne. It was the greatest proposal. August 2nd, 2017 will forever be one of my favorite days.”

The planning process

The couple’s biggest takeaway was that you should ALWAYS have an indoor option, especially during hurricane season! Luckily, Revolution Mill Events works with every couple to make sure they have a backup plan in place, just in case the worst case scenario happens. Preparing a thorough rain plan ahead of time ensures you’ll love every element of your day and won’t have to stress about little details day of.

We can’t thank each vendor enough for going above and beyond to make the couple’s wedding day great… even in adverse conditions!

“Your wedding is about you and your significant other, no one else. It’s hard to remember that sometimes when trying to accommodate everyone’s needs. Even if things don’t go as planned on the big day, in the end you are married and that’s is all that matters! Enjoy every minute of it, it goes by quick!” – Allyssa, Bride

Décor

Allyssa and Dustin opted for a color scheme of purple, blush, gray, and gold.

The décor featured several DIY elements, including a handful of personalized signs. Allyssa said she loved creating the personalized mirror signs, which included the welcome sign, bridal party, and seating chart.

“I loved writing my own signs for the wedding and yes, I would do it again!” – Allyssa, Bride

Food and drink

The wedding party enjoyed a cocktail hour with passed appetizers that included caprese skewers; cheddar biscuits filled with Virginia ham, granny smith apples, and honey mustard; and bacon-wrapped sweet potato. Multiple guests, including the bride, were vegetarian, so meatless cheddar biscuits were prepared for them.

The dinner buffet included tossed garden salad, grilled chicken breast, oven roasted vegetables, smashed potatoes, and assorted rolls. The vegetarian entrée was a zucchini boat stuffed with chickpeas, Mediterranean vegetables, and balsamic glaze.

A family friend made the dessert buffet.

Venue

The groom’s grandfather grew up in the Mill – and this special connection to The Colonnade made the couple’s decision about venue even easier.

They were also drawn to the old industrial beauty of the space and the windows.

Revolution Mill Events: Matt + Susie

Matt Farver and Susie Lewis tied the knot on May 12, 2018. It was an unexpectedly warm day, but that didn’t stop everything from going flawlessly!

Matt says he was attracted to Susie from day one, and it only took a handful of dates for him to be sure that she was the one. He proposed on the family boat at Smith Mountain Lake on Labor Day 2017. He had champagne and a selfie stick hidden on the boat for the post-proposal festivities.

The couple enjoyed an outdoor ceremony at The Colonnade, followed by a buffet dinner and dancing.

“Most everything was turn-key. Jaime was very easy to work with and very responsive to my emails along the way, which meant a lot.”

– Matt Farver, Groom

The Planning Process

Matt and Susie started planning shortly after their engagement. Matt attended another wedding at Revolution Mill and knew they wanted to consider it as an option for their big day.

Their advice to other couples? “Just know something isn't going to go as planned. Be ready to roll with it once the big day gets here, and don't sweat the small stuff.”

The couple highlighted both Amanda Ward, their wedding planner, and Scott Adams, their florist, as standout vendors who went above and beyond their expectations.

Favorite Moment

The newlywed's favorite moment turned out to be their first dance! They did a customized routine to Stand By Me. After the first dance, they tore up the dance floor with their five bridesmaids and eight groomsmen.

Décor

Matt and Susie opted for a color scheme of peach and ice blue. They based the palette off the groom’s favorite colors, orange and blue, but went with soft shades that were more fitting for a spring wedding.

The couple opted for traditional white tablecloths, gold rimmed white china, and an assortment of floral centerpieces.

Food and drink

The couple enjoyed a cocktail hour with passed hors d’oeuvres that included mini sundried tomato biscuits stuffed with pimento cheese, mushroom caps, and jumbo shrimp wrapped with bacon.

The dinner buffet featured a caprese salad; prosciutto, basil, parmesan, and feta stuffed chicken; grilled vegetables; and the couple’s favorite dish: beef tenderloin medallions.

Venue

There were many things about The Colonnade that appealed to Susie and Matt, but most of all the were drawn to the courtyard. They loved the idea of being able to have their ceremony and reception in the same venue, and were drawn to the layout of The Colonnade’s interior. After seeing several square rooms, the unique shape of The Colonnade stood out to them as a perfect fit.

Revolution Mill Events: Kendelle + Ryan

Kendelle Cooper and Ryan Federico tied the knot on March 31, 2018. The couple opted for an indoor ceremony with a start time of 5pm. A soft ivory backdrop with an accent of burgundy framed the downstairs ceremony location.

After the nuptials, the guests enjoyed a cocktail hour and buffet style dinner.

"Jaime-
I wanted to take a brief moment to give you our greatest thanks and appreciation.  From day 1 of meeting with you, We were confident and comfortable.  You have been an absolute delight to work with.  Both you and Randy were inviting, accommodating, flexible, patient....I could go on and on with the level of our satisfaction in working with you.  There was not one single thing that comes to mind that we were not pleased with.  Kendelle and Ryan had the wedding of their dreams, our guests thought everything was amazing and beautiful, compliments were innumerable, and a great deal of that accomplishment belongs to you and your staff.   You are at the top of our recommendation list!

Revolution Mill Events: Leah + Greg

We believe every wedding is special in its own right. Some make you laugh. Some make you cry. Some make you smile. Some make you reminisce.

In this new blog series, we’ll be highlighting some of our most recent weddings. In each post, we hope to capture a little bit of what makes each ceremony so unique. We’ll be sharing special moments and photos from each wedding, as well as highlighting the vendors each couple used.

Our first profile focuses on Leah Riker and Greg Atkins, who tied the knot at The Colonnade in Greensboro on April 7, 2018.

“Our wedding day was just perfect. The ceremony went off without a hitch, everyone had a great time at the reception, and we ate our fill of delicious food and danced the night away! The venue was decorated so simply yet so beautifully. Coupled with all of our loved ones in the room, we couldn’t have envisioned it better if we tried.”

- LEAH, Bride

The Planning Process

A good venue sets the atmosphere. A good caterer makes mealtime a memory worth savoring. And, a good photographer ensures no moment goes uncaptured.

Leah and her mom started planning for the wedding in October 2017 – about 6 months before the actual wedding date. Her advice for the newly engaged? “Make sure you pick a great venue, caterer, and photographer. Those are so important! Also make sure to take time to actually enjoy the planning process. Remember it doesn't all have to be done at once!”

Decor

Leah and Greg chose to go with a simple color scheme of Leah’s favorite color: pink!

Simple and elegant, this monochromatic color scheme focused around coral with coordinating shades of pink. Pink was woven throughout the décor, with little touches here and there in the floral arrangements and bridesmaid’s dresses. The groomsmen coordinated in light grey suits with pink boutonnières.

Favorite Moment

For Leah and Greg, their standout moment came during their reception. With the sound of Butterfly Kisses filling the room for the father/daughter dance, Leah graced the dance floor in her father’s arms. Halfway through their father daughter song, they were joined by all the other fathers and daughters on the guest list. “It really was a very sweet moment,”Leah recalled.

Food and drink

The culinary highlight of the day was Pepper Moon’s show-stopping mashed potato bar! Guests were able to fill their own martini glass with our signature smashed potatoes and then customize with a wide variety of toppings. A few of the favorites? Chopped bacon, diced ham, smoked salmon, shredded smoked gouda, shredded cheddar, salsa, sour cream, sautéed mushrooms, scallions and whole green olives.

Venue

For some, the standout feature of The Colonnade is the elegantly exposed brickwork. For others, it’s the towering ceilings. For Leah and Greg, it was its beautiful wrought iron railings and the natural light from our tall windows.

“The Colonnade really is such a beautiful place and it’s a great value, too. Along with the venue, our favorite thing about working with Revolution Mills Events was Jaime. She’s so thorough, very professional and always goes above and beyond to answer any questions.”
