Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Paige & Brett

All photos by Chelsea Renay Photography

Paige and Brett’s Greensboro wedding day was filled with moments of pure magic at Rev Mill Events. The Courtyard was the perfect ceremony choice with summer in full bloom, feeling like it was straight out of a fairy tale. The guests created an atmosphere of sheer excitement as the couple exchanged their heartfelt vows. There was an undeniable love in the air!

From the moment their wedding day began, the bride and groom were surrounded by friends and family who were elated to be part of this beautiful day. You could truly feel the excitement and expectations for the festivities ahead. Paige and her bridesmaids took full advantage of The Suite as they got ready together, sharing laughter, tears and heartfelt moments.

CEREMONY

“Looking out the window at the "first look" with Paige & Brett and then the 2nd "first look" that Paige had with her dad (Ed) and brother (Eddie). It was precious and I'm so very glad that Paige wanted to add Eddie in the mix. After the "first looks", Paige and Brett both seemed so happy and calm.........there was just a feeling that all was well with the world. From the words of the FOB, Paige was so calm it helped me to be calm.” - Mother of the Bride

Have we mentioned how much we love first looks? We absolutely loved that Paige and Brett incorporated this tradition into their wedding day. Those quiet moments during a first look are so sweet before meeting again at the altar. It can help calm nerves and you may choose to exchange vows intimately before the ceremony as a special memory between just the two of you.

As the Groom and groomsmen took their place in The Courtyard, the Bride and her bridesmaids began their walk down the courtyard stone walkway. The sun sparkled upon the newlyweds as they said “I do”.

COCKTAIL HOUR

As guests flowed from The Courtyard into The Colonnade, they were greeted with a delightful cocktail hour in our lower level. As guests mixed and mingled, they enjoyed delicious appetizers including Mushroom Caps, Beef Bruschetta and Southwestern Potato Skins and sipped on the signature drink, a Moscow Mule. The air was filled with the gentle hum of laughter and clinking of glasses as guests savored every moment.

“Paige let me know what she did not want in a wedding venue (barns, ugly ballroom carpet, country club types....) and then gave me several places to preview before she and Brett could get to Greensboro. She also liked the "Industrial look". I set up the meeting with Ben and then brought 2 very dear friends to the meeting. It was the very 1st venue we visited and all 3 of us immediately knew that it was Paige!- Mother of the Bride

The Reception

The Colonnade came to life as guests ascended into the upper venue space that was perfectly prepared with elegant table designs for the reception. As the evening progressed from toasts to dinner, guests enjoyed heart warming speeches and toasts on love before enjoying a delicious meal prepared by our in house catering including Beef Tenderloin Medallions, Blackened Tilapia Filets, Wild Mushroom Risotto and Roasted Veggies.

Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Kathryn & Clint

All photos by Thin Spaces Productions

Kathryn & Clint’s wedding day at Revolution Mill Events was the perfect day for friends and family to share and celebrate the beginning of their next chapter in their love story. Incorporating a cohesive design with little hints of their personalities sprinkled throughout, they created the perfect June wedding day in Greensboro, North Carolina

“Our wedding day was beautiful! It was a perfect, sunny day filled with family, friends, and laughter. We had so much fun getting to spend time with all of our favorite people in one place. From getting ready together in the morning, to dancing the night away, it was so heartwarming to see everyone from both sides of the family come together. The venue was stunning and all of the vendors were spot on. We couldn't have asked for a better day!” - BRIDE

The thoughtfulness behind every aspect of their wedding shone through from the touches of the textures to the loving acknowledgments to family traditions placed throughout the day. The design elements were light, welcoming and allowed guests to experience more of the couple's personalities and story throughout the day.

“The most unique part of our wedding was our cookie table filled with homemade treats! My family is originally from Pennsylvania and it is a tradition to have a cookie table at weddings for guests to bring homemade cookies to contribute. It is so popular that there are actually Italian Wedding Cookies specifically for this occasion! My mom, grandmothers, and aunts all contributed to the wedding cookie table. We had table top labels that showed a picture of me and the family member that made the cookies on display for our guests as they grazed. We had doggy bags for people to take some cookies with them as their wedding favor and needless to say, it was a huge hit!” - BRIDE

The Jordan’s took DIY by storm when planning their wedding day. Kathryn fell in love with the floral design of her wedding dress and decided to incorporate it into other aspects of their wedding design. Their custom signage, invitations and stationery was all cohesively planned and designed with the dress in mind!

“The biggest piece of advice we would give couples planning their wedding is: don't be afraid to stray from tradition or what's trending to make the day your own. This day is to celebrate YOU, so do what you feel is right. We are so happy that we put our own personal spin on things from the timeline, to layouts, and key parts of the day that we wanted to make sure happened.” - BRIDE

The Ceremony

The Courtyard was prepped perfectly for the event down to every last special detail. On this beautiful June day, the North Carolina sun lit the courtyard and created the ideal conditions for their outdoor ceremony. Their floral arrangements were unique and gorgeously placed for framing the couple as they said their “I do’s”. As everyone entered the space, guests' excitement filled the air with expectation of the event to come. Their color palette was absolutely stunning against The Courtyard’s greenery and historic brick background.

“It was very important to us to have some outdoor space because we were having a spring wedding and wanted our guests to be able to enjoy the weather. Once we toured the venue, we fell in love. We loved that the event space was completely private, something other venues we toured were lacking, and that there were so many options. We had multiple options for how to use the indoor and outdoor spaces which is something we were really looking for because we wanted to make the wedding personal. There were even multiple options for the rehearsal dinner spaces! We were able to confidently make decisions based on what we felt was best because we were able to weigh our options on how to best use the space.” - BRIDE

The Reception

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails and appetizers in The Courtyard, the couples favorite space at Rev Mill Events, before moving into The Colonnade for the Reception. The decor choices were beautifully intertwined with the colors and theme of the wedding design. The floral arrangements continued to catch your eye as they were elegantly placed on each table. The Reception was full of love, celebration, and admiration from family and friends gathered to celebrate the newlyweds!

If anything went wrong, we were not aware of it, which is exactly what you want on your wedding day!”

Florals: Something Borrowed Blooms - “provided the stunning wedding florals! This company allows you to rent silk florals for weddings (and other events) and I was so pleasantly surprised by the quality of their flowers. These silk flowers were gorgeous, photographed beautifully and gave the exact look I was going for. Something Borrowed Blooms thought of everything so that you don't have to and their customer service is amazing!”

Videographer: Honeydew Films - “captured stunning video footage for us! We were able to get a highlight film, plus edited clips of special moments throughout the day such as the first dances, speeches, and the full ceremony. The team was nice to work with and they got along great with the other vendors!”

We always looked forward to going to their events so we could take time envisioning our wedding day in the space and trying all of the amazing food. Welcome Your Guests with a Cocktail

What better way to say, “Welcome! It’s time to sit back, relax and enjoy your evening!” than to offer a drink as your guests walk in? We are obsessed with this idea recently used by one of our couples at their reception. Guests were wowed with this beautiful (and functional!) welcome display. We worked with the couple to create a signature blueberry, lavender pink lemonade, which was uniquely displayed with their escort cards. This display also makes a stunning champagne wall.

Late Night Snacks

PMC_The Nixons Photography (4).jpg

Grilled Cheese at a wedding? Yes! We love putting a playful twist on southern comfort foods. Imagine ending a night of tearing up the dance floor with a gourmet grilled cheese made with blue cheese and bacon or goat cheese and peppadew peppers. Other ideas to satisfy your guest’s late night munchies: a soft pretzel bar, freshly popped popcorn, mac & cheese bites or burger sliders.

Interactive Food Stations

Provide a memorable opportunity for your guests to interact with their food by building their own plate or watching a Pepper Moon chef create their personal dish.

Hors d’oeuvres are spread out into multiple stations which is ideal for reducing lines and offering variety. Your guests will remember the fun interactive displays (think Mashed Potato Bar, Polenta Bar, Taco Station) and chefs preparing their dishes (think Jar-B-Q, Fired Ahi Tuna, Gyros, Fajitas with fresh Guacamole, Jap Che)!

Interactive food stations allow your guests to customize their meal to fit their preferences, which will have your guests raving about the food at your wedding.

Cocktail Hour Hors D'oeuvres

Cocktail hour is the perfect time to let your personality shine through the food!

Passed hors d'oeuvres — This is an elegant way to provide bite sized hors d'oeuvres to your guests during cocktail hour. Servers will tray pass the goodies as your guests mix and mingle throughout the space. Pepper Moon Catering offers many options including the popular Pumpkin Curry Empanada, Sundried Tomato Biscuits with housemade Pimento Cheese, Caprese Skewers, Marinara Meatball in a Spaghetti Nest and Bacon wrapped Sweet Potato.

Displayed hors d'oeuvres — Wow your guests with displays of mouth watering hors d'oeuvres such as Imported and Domestic Cheeses, a trio of Dips, Fresh Fruit with brandied custard dipping sauce or Grilled Vegetables with sundried tomato vinaigrette. Combine several items for a plentiful grazing table!

Formal Plated Meals

We’re seeing a return to the traditional plated dinner service. This is a great option if you are going for a more formal and elegant guest experience. Typically guests are seated at an assigned table and the meal is served directly to the table by the wait staff. It is often a three course meal that includes a salad, entree, and dessert.

Everyone at the table will get their food at the same time; and you can spread out toasts and/or incorporate dances during the courses to keep your guests engaged while they enjoy their dinner.

Include a Local Favorite

We are lucky to have some amazing food businesses central to North Carolina like Krispy Kreme, Mt Olive Pickles, Cheerwine, Texas Pete, Snyder’s-Lance and Dewey’s Bakery. Try adding a bit of of flair to your day and include something local in your wedding menu. We could incorporate Krispy Kreme donuts as a late night snack or offering them as favors to your guests! We also have a fun Krispy Kreme slider bar where guests can choose their toppings for a decadent dessert.

Revolution Mill Events: Claire and Azer

Married 9-22-2018

“Our wedding day was full of so much joy! We wanted something simple but elegant and we truly feel like the day could not have gone better! We had a traditional Catholic mass at St Pius X Church in Greensboro, NC. It was extra special for us to get married here, as it is Claire's home church where she has received all her sacraments. The ceremony was beautiful and the music and readings were all hand picked by us! Our reception at Revolution Mill was an absolute blast and we could not have picked a better venue! We ended the night dancing with our closest family and friends.”

 - Claire & Azer, Bride & Groom

The backstory

“We met at the gym.  We both moved to Atlanta for work and routinely went to the gym around the same time each day (after work) and struck up a conversation and became friends. We started talking to each other each time we saw one another there and Azer finally asked me out on a date!”

The couple dated for a bit, and in 2017 Azer popped the question! When Claire’s annual family beach trip was cancelled for the first time ever, Azer planned a weekend getaway to Florida for the couple. Claire loves the beach, and when the couple was having cocktails on the balcony before dinner, Azer proposed. Claire says it was the perfect, intimate proposal.

The planning process

Claire’s advice to new brides? “Delegate and take it a little at a time. Planning can be very overwhelming, but if you have reliable vendors and help from family/friends-it will go smoothly!”

Make-up/Hair: Face Forward

Florist: Botanica Flowers

Dessert/Cake: Delicious Cakes

Day-of-Coordinator: Kay Lentini

Reception Music: Emerald Empire Band

Décor

Claire and Azer didn’t have a particular theme, but the color scheme of navy and blush was consistent throughout their venue décor.

Navy is one of Azer's favorite colors and blush is one of Claire's favorite colors – and they ended up making the perfect color combination for an early fall wedding.

One of the most unique elements of the couple’s décor was a special tribute table that featured photos of Claire’s mother and grandmothers on a table alongside a portrait of Claire.

AvdagicWedding-3017.jpg

Food and drink

The couple opted for a cocktail hour with passed appetizers that included caprese skewers, prosciutto wrapped asparagus, and spaghetti meatball skewers. The couple said the spaghetti and meatball appetizer was their favorite thing of the night!

Guests started off their meal with a baby spinach salad with strawberries, mandarin oranges, goat cheese, and almonds in a blood orange vinaigrette. A dinner buffet gave guests the option of bourbon and pecan coated chicken or marinated grilled flank steak along with a variety of accompaniments. Everyone enjoyed wedding and groom’s cake to finish their meal!

Venue

“Jaime and her staff were absolutely amazing! She was so organized and scheduled meetings with us leading up to the wedding to review the timeline. We felt so comfortable with her and her team and were confident that everything would go smoothly-and it definitely did!”

-       Claire, Bride

Claire said that after attending The Colonnade’s open house, they fell in love with the space. It fit their style perfectly and the large windows took their breath away. They loved the idea of letting in so much natural light, and knew the space would make a gorgeous backdrop for photos.

We had so much fun working with this couple -- we can't wait to chat with you about how The Colonnade can be customized for your wedding day! Contact us today.

Revolution Mill Events: Allyssa and Dustin

While Florence prevented a handful of out of town family members from making it, Allyssa and Dustin still ended up having a fantastic day – Hurricane Florence and all. The couple even collected rain from their wedding day. They made the best of it, because they knew nothing was going to stop them from saying “I do.”

The proposal

The couple got engaged on August 2, 2017. After a long day at work, they went to dinner at Village Tavern.

“He seemed distracted with his phone while at dinner but I didn’t think anything of it. We stopped by Sheetz after dinner for him to pick up some beer... When we got home there was a dog crate in the living room and my dog was sniffing the crate. As soon as I realized there was a puppy in the crate, I lost it. I have a passion for dogs so I was beside myself. I dropped to my knees in tears and hugged our newest addition. When I finally turned around to look at Dustin he was holding a little box. He then got down on his knee and asked to marry me. To this day he still thinks I haven’t fully answered his proposal question because I was too excited about getting a puppy. He put the ring on my finger and the first thing I thought is we have to go show my parents. Dustin opened the front door and my family and our closest friends came running in with champagne. It was the greatest proposal. August 2nd, 2017 will forever be one of my favorite days.”

The planning process

The couple’s biggest takeaway was that you should ALWAYS have an indoor option, especially during hurricane season! Luckily, Revolution Mill Events works with every couple to make sure they have a backup plan in place, just in case the worst case scenario happens. Preparing a thorough rain plan ahead of time ensures you’ll love every element of your day and won’t have to stress about little details day of.

We can’t thank each vendor enough for going above and beyond to make the couple’s wedding day great… even in adverse conditions!

“Your wedding is about you and your significant other, no one else. It’s hard to remember that sometimes when trying to accommodate everyone’s needs. Even if things don’t go as planned on the big day, in the end you are married and that’s is all that matters! Enjoy every minute of it, it goes by quick!” – Allyssa, Bride

Décor

Allyssa and Dustin opted for a color scheme of purple, blush, gray, and gold.

The décor featured several DIY elements, including a handful of personalized signs. Allyssa said she loved creating the personalized mirror signs, which included the welcome sign, bridal party, and seating chart.

“I loved writing my own signs for the wedding and yes, I would do it again!” – Allyssa, Bride

Food and drink

The wedding party enjoyed a cocktail hour with passed appetizers that included caprese skewers; cheddar biscuits filled with Virginia ham, granny smith apples, and honey mustard; and bacon-wrapped sweet potato. Multiple guests, including the bride, were vegetarian, so meatless cheddar biscuits were prepared for them.

The dinner buffet included tossed garden salad, grilled chicken breast, oven roasted vegetables, smashed potatoes, and assorted rolls. The vegetarian entrée was a zucchini boat stuffed with chickpeas, Mediterranean vegetables, and balsamic glaze.

A family friend made the dessert buffet.

Venue

The groom’s grandfather grew up in the Mill – and this special connection to The Colonnade made the couple’s decision about venue even easier.

They were also drawn to the old industrial beauty of the space and the windows.

July 28, 2018: Boles/Millisor Ceremony and Reception

"Jaime and her staff at Revolution Mill were absolutely fantastic! My husband and I got engaged in January 2017 and booked our venue in February 2017. We were recently married on July 28, 2018.

Throughout our one-and-a-half-year engagement, Jaime kept in touch with us, often checking in, and helped us plan our special day. She was friendly, hospitable, and kind from the moment we inquired about getting married at the Colonnade at Revolution Mill.

As our engagement progressed, Jaime reminded us of items that needed to be complete, sent us our updated contract(s) as we made changes, and really focused on what was important to us on our wedding day.

She provided us with multiple opportunities to attend tastings and allowed us to walk through the venue closer to our big day to get a feel of how things would work.

Jaime answered all of my emails immediately and was so easy to correspond with...Any time that Jaime saw an opportunity to help us save money, she shared it with us so that we could decide whether to pursue the suggestion.

Our food was out of this world! We received so many compliments from our guests about our menu options.

The staff was accommodating and made my husband and I feel like royalty on our wedding day.

It truly doesn’t get any better than Revolution Mill. From start to finish, Jaime made the wedding planning process easy (and stress free)... Our ceremony set-up was everything we hoped it would be and I hope these photos provide a little glimpse of what an indoor ceremony at Revolution Mill is like."

Veronica and Maisson had a beautiful indoor ceremony. They were joined by their dog as they exchanged their vows. A beautiful double rainbow was spotted in the courtyard just before the ceremony (timing?!).

After the event, the couple left us a note saying: "Thank you so much Jaime, it was everything we wanted and more."

August 23, 2018: Progressive Business Media Event

This creative forum featured the Triad’s enduring legacy as a center for textile, furniture-making, and manufacturing. Designed to inspire, educate and entertain, the three day long event delivered five custom-designed educational experiences, as well as excursions to savor the best food and culture North Carolina has to offer. We were delighted to be a featured stop for the Designer Experience!

Guests arrived to The Colonnade at 5p to enjoy a cocktail hour featuring local wine and beer before sitting down to a three-course family style meal. Charcuterie boards, cheese platters, and caprese salad were followed by grilled salmon, oven roasted vegetables, and pasta alcantara. For dessert, a selection of petite fancy pastries was served.

Revolution Mill Events: McEachern 50th Anniversary
McEachern 50th Anniversary | Revolution Mill Events

It’s a privilege to be a part of the start of so many marriages, but in May we had the unique honor of helping celebrate 50 years of marriage.

Hector and Brenda McEachern met in college – they were best friends who enjoyed the same things and spending time together. Being college students, they didn’t have a formal ceremony when they got married. But that hasn’t negatively impacted their relationship -- if you ask them, they’ll tell you, “it’s not about the wedding, it’s about the marriage. While weddings are nice and show an outward display of love to others, when everyone goes home, it’s the two of you. Weddings are nice, but the marriage is key.”

After 50 years together, they decided to have the celebration of their love that they never had in college.

The planning process

Hector and Brenda’s 50th celebration was their second event with us, and we couldn’t wait to help make their vision come to life. We worked with them and Events by Nishaka for 11 months before their big event to plan all the details.

After a seated dinner, they had a vow renewal and then enjoyed toasts from family and friends. It was evening full of romance, elegance, and glam.

Brenda says, “Jaime were very organized and cordial. She responded quickly and accommodated our every request big and small. The day of the event, the serving staff was pleasant as well as the event manager. All our needs were met.”

Décor

Hector and Brenda went with a burgundy and gold color scheme, which even carried to Brenda’s gown. Tasteful sparkle glittered throughout the room and the couple sat on white and gold throne chairs.

The theme of “50 Years of Love” was woven throughout the evening.

Photos of the couple throughout their 50 years were stationed around the room.

Favorite Moment

The couple enjoyed the entire day, saying “It was a culmination of our family and friends coming together to celebrate our union.  We were able to show what love, communication, encouragement and faithfulness looks like in black and white.  It spanned generations.  It was a delight and we are so grateful that our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were able to experience what 50 years of a commitment looks like, in a tangible way.”

Food and Drink

Before dinner, several appetizers circulated the room including a favorite of sundried tomato biscuits stuffed with homemade pimento cheese.

Guests highlighted the grilled vegetables as a favorite of the buffet dinner. The couple also received several compliments on the two meats -- bourbon and pecan coated chicken breast with apricot sauce and marinated flank steak with pommery mustard sauce.

For dessert, a spread of vanilla cupcakes surrounded a burgundy and gold hat cake.

Venue

With a guest list of 250, this couple utilized every part of The Colonnade. The downstairs area provided plenty of space for dancing while the upstairs was set up for the reception.

50 years together

After 50 years together, this couple is obviously onto something special! When asked what advice they would give to their grandchildren about finding a mate, they replied:

Brenda: “To pray and ask God to send someone that believes in them, understands them and encourages them.”
Hector: “Seek guidance from God, be unselfish, become friends first and always be willing to give as much or more than you get.”

With over 12 years of event management experience and impeccable attention to detail, Jaime has a talent for producing memorable occasions. She joined Pepper Moon Catering in 2015 to lead the Revolution Mill Events team along with managing sales and operations. From floor plans to flatware, Jaime works diligently to ensure every event is a wonderful client and guest experience.

She is a graduate of Elon University in Business Administration and holds certificates from Cornell in Hospitality Management and the University of Georgia in Conference & Meeting Management.

Jaime says, “I have always been drawn to the hospitality industry and delight in taking a concept from start to finish. With each new event comes the opportunity to build long lasting relationships."

To get to know her a little better, we've asked her about a few of her favorite things. See her answers here:

  • How did you get interested in event planning?
Hospitality and event planning is in my DNA! When I was growing up my parents hosted many social celebrations and business functions. I can remember helping with the details from sending out invitations, selecting menus, planning seating arrangements, setting tables, welcoming guests, to helping the catering staff. I wanted to be involved with everything behind the scenes. Confession: I used to save up my allowance to buy all the bridal magazines!

  •  What skills do you think are necessary for being an event planner?
I think it's vital to be service oriented and very organized, while loving the details and having strong leadership skills. You have to know how to gracefully handle different situations and personalities under pressure.

  • Favorite thing about your job: Every day is a new day! I love being able to work with a wide variety of event types and clients, which keeps things fresh.

  • What was your wedding color scheme?
We were married in 2006 and had a light pink and green color scheme.

  • Favorite feature of The Colonnade
The windows and natural light they provide.

  • Favorite feature of Color Works Meeting Space?
Because Color Works is located in the middle of campus, I like that you get to experience the character of the Mill as you walk to the event space.

  • Favorite event planning tip?
Remain flexible - things never go exactly as planned, but if you have a solid team of professional vendors you can rely on their experience to create a seamless event.

  • Favorite menu planning tip?
Stick with your theme. Consider your event theme when choosing, serving or displaying your food throughout the event. A beautiful outdoor wedding will best be remembered not only by the scenery, but also by the fresh and seasonal food and drink that accompanies it.

  • Favorite Pepper Moon Dish
It's really hard to pick! But, probably the Short Rib Tart - it's the perfect blend of sweet and savory with a touch of tangy blue cheese.

  • When you're not at work, where will we find you?
Usually at home enjoying the quiet of living in the country - cooking, exercising, reading, or gardening. The mountains are my favorite place to be!
